ICD 10 Conversion Services
Standards set forth by the United States Department of Health and Human Services on Jan. 15, 2009 specify that X12 Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) transaction definitions for version 5010 – used in conjunction with HIPAA transactions – must be completed by January 2013. The new standards also require healthcare providers to comply with an International Classification of Diseases (ICD) standard update, from ICD-9 to ICD-10 by October 2013.

The International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems 10th Revision (ICD-10) is a coding of diseases, signs, symptoms, abnormal findings, complaints, social circumstances and external causes of injury or diseases, as classified by the World Health Organization (WHO) The code set allows more than 155,000 different codes and permits tracking of many new diagnoses and procedures which is a significant expansion on the 17,000 codes available in ICD-9.
